Individuals at least 18 years old must attain a learners permit at the NC DMV before doing any behind the wheel lessons. Teens 15 – 17 years old must apply for a limited learner permit after completion of the Teen Driver’s Education Course before doing any driving lessons outside of the required minimum
6–hour teen requirement.

Qualified candidates will successfully complete and pass a knowledge test, road sign recognition, and vision tests.
